Remote-Controlled Dustrag

rcsweeper.jpg

I’m kind of an infomercial junkie, not gonna lie. During an all-nighter in college, I saw an ad for a Roomba, and I really haven’t stopped thinking about it since. That is, until I saw this creation by Evil Mad Scientist, where they modded a remote-control car to double as a floor sweeper.

Way more fun than the Roomba because you can tell it where to go. And because it’s not hundreds of dollars.

Silhouette Necklace

Abigail Percy at WhipUp has a great post on how to make a silhouette necklace. Abigail made hers with a piece of acrylic, but it would be really cool made from other mediums, too.

Hack a Wii with Candles

Apparently, according to The Feed, "since it only takes two points of light to orient the Wii-controllers, you can easily replace the sensor bar on the Wii with a couple candles. We suggest a couple of nice pine-scented candles for a homey, festive vibe for Red Steel."

I wonder if other forms of lighting would work, too. Check out the video to show it in action. But, as one reader smartly noted, it’s probably not the best idea to put a set of candles that close to a) an expensive gaming console or b) a plasma TV. But still, a fun idea.

[Thanks for the tip, Mike!]

Dyed Plexiglass

Lubee from Craftster uses colored plexiglass to make jewelry, but the possibilities for other projects are endless.

Her instructions to dye plexiglass:  i just used regular fabric dye and put it in a pot and a SMALL amount of water and a tiny bit of dish soap.
i brought it to a boil and left the Plexiglas in the dye for 10 Min. the longer you leave it in the richer the color.
then take the plexi pieces out of the pot and put them i n some warm soapy water to clean them off. then lit them dry on a paper towel.
tada dye plastic.

Bowling Ball Flash Drive

For those of you who just can’t keep track of those tiny flash drives, Chris from spurgeonblog has created a flash drive in a bowling ball. I’m interested to see how this connects to his computer, though … I’m guessing it’s removable? Still, it’s a funny concept. [via]
