Lip Balm Gun

Instructables user Professor Hognutz has created a tutorial on the most terrifying of elementary-school weapons: the lip-balm gun. Never again will you be caught unprotected in the dark of night without something to shoot into your attacker’s eye.
Hognutz writes: This instructable will show you how to construct a less-than-lethal, easily concealed, personal defense weapon. The design’s only drawbacks are that it is a single shot weapon and it has the killing power of a marshmallow dropped from the height of two feet.

Magnetic Spice Rack
I’ve seen this in a few places and finally got around to posting it. Using little spice tins and super-strong magnets, create a refrigerator or stovetop spice rack. [Stovetop via Craft]

Homemade thermometer

Make a thermometer and calibrate it using random measurements, then create your own numbers. Then, according to Instructables user Kiteman, Give your scale a name, then take delight in confusing your friends when the conversation inevitably drifts round to the weather; “Boy, it’s hot today!”

Mixed-Message Clothing

Lenore from Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories has come up with a great idea using simple iron-on felt letters. Write one message on a T-shirt, another on a zipper hoodie, and when you wear them together, they say a completely new message! Of course, this would depend on the clothes not shifting so it would say something weird and misspelled, but that could add to the fun.

USB Keychain Holder

I like this idea of a keychain holder made from old USB hubs. To hang your keys, simply plug your thumbdrive into an open port. Go the extra mile and wire it to your computer for the ultimate USB hub/key station. Apparently this is from gerrysart.de, but I couldn’t find it through all the annoying flash (flash: looks pretty, but makes extremely useless websites /end rant). I saw it here first.

Link Cupcakes

Instead of making your geeky kid (or friend, or lover, or parent) a cake shaped like his or her favorite video game character, go ultra nerd and make a pixellated character (like Link, pictured here) out of many cupcakes. [via]

iBoy

This might be my favorite iPod case yet. Turn an original Game Boy into a case and — the best part — use the buttons on the Game Boy to control the iPod. [via]

Starship Enterprise

Using parts from an old floppy disk, make yourself a model of the Starship Enterprise. It’s like 14 levels of nerdy cool … and it’s guaranteed to get you laid. Um. By a trekkie chick, I mean.

New Laptop Keyboard

Tom the Geek’s keyboard wasn’t working so well, so instead of coughing up the big bucks for a new laptop keyboard, he spliced in a USB keyboard. It doesn’t completely fit the space, but, as Tom put it, I kinda like the way it makes the laptop look like a Frankenstein or something. [via]

Add this to the list of things to do with the quickly fading CD: make them into amazing sculptures like artist George Radebaugh does. [via]
