Hood Ornament

Sure, you could just keep your generic hood ornament, or you could show off your car personality in another way than those ironic, obnoxious bumper stickers ("My other ride is a broom," anyone?) by making your own.

Although I’m sure making soap from bacon fat doesn’t create quite the luxurious lather that Tyler Durden’s human fat soap would, it’s a pretty fun idea. And, actually, wonderfully disgusting to put out on your bathroom counter. [via]

This project is based on a old product that used to be available back in 1982 - a stuffed cat for your rear view mirror complete with blinking eyes that match your car’s blinker. For some unknown reason, you can’t buy the cats anymore, it’s almost like they never sold any and went out of business or something.
But don’t worry, because Jalopnik is here with a complete tutorial and making your very own Wanky cat for your rear window, in case you were among the few who never actually bought one.

Using templates you can download from Canon here, fold a paper corsage. This would work well for your date for prom, a gift topper or wedding favors. Or just to impress the ladies.[via]

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories brings up a good point: What better day than Valentine’s to shoot people? But first, personalize your candy-heart ammo with food coloring markers. Then … ready, aim, fire with your own candy-heart trebuchet!

The Steampunk Workshop has a tutorial to etch Altoids tins using copper electroplating and then saltwater etching. Some of the results are really freaking impressive. [via]

Make your love some soap with a "beating" LED throwie (no magnet, and note the step about waterproofing the battery …) and show your love! [via]
I admit that every once in a while I get mad at my macbook. Sometimes because it still only has 512mb of RAM, other times because everyone else got cool stuff like bigger hard drives and free iPods with theirs but since I bought it the week it came out I got nothin, other times because I actually have to use my Apple Care because something broke. But there is one thing that I will no longer hold against my notebook because now it can actually run KisMAC. Before this, my only feasible option for packet sniffing was to run Knoppix STD on my old Dell laptop that didn’t even have a functioning battery. Now my options have increased since someone took the time to get KisMAC to work with the AirportExtreme card in macbooks. If you’ve read this far I’m assuming your’re interested… here it is. (via)
