Back Up Your Vinyl

Here's a nifty way to back up your records. This was how kids pirated music before CD Burners cam on the scene. Okay - not actually. This process uses silicone to make a mold of the record, then liquid plastic to create a record from the mold.
Nobody tell the RIAA, or they're going to outlaw plastic. [via]

I use this in mold making for things of art, they will send samples too!

Hey, I would really like to try this, but every time I click on the link to get the instructions, some ad comes up instead.
Can someone please email them to me? Or fix the link? ;p

Hi, does this really works?
How do you avoid air bubbels in the silicon and what sort of silicon do you use?
You just melt down old vinyl and put it on the silicon mold?
if this works it would be great, I would try it out immediately,...

And don't get dumber by reading the above reply. The MOLD will have negative grooves and after you pour the liquid plastic INTO the mold, you will get the POSITIVE copy. Duuuuuuuh...
Don't get stupid by this
Don't get stupid by this idea. A vinyl has grooves (let's say "positive grooves") going down and when you make a "copy" using the silicone, the result are "negative grooves" going up. It cannot be played by any needle!!.
Think how a stamp work, you get a positive picture (stamp) after stamping. But when you "take-back" the picture, it will be a negative picture again.
This what will happen when you do the above job.
thanks,
