Energy Saving Curtains
Unprotected windows let an amazing amount of energy into your house on sunny days. This is great for winter, but in the summer it can get you feeling like you live in an oven. These curtains will not win you style points, but they will win you lower power bill points by helping to keep the sunlight from heating up your house until the A/C has to kick on the compensate. You can regain some of your style dignity by putting regular curtains right over your new outer-space ones. [via]
What I really want to see is curtains made of solar panels that will run your A/C.

We have curtains like these, and use them for heat retention and summer heat-deflection, but my intention for summer is to devise some ‘fold-out’ awnings for our sunny windows, so the heat never makes it to the inside of the glass. My thought is to make the Awning frame out of a Squared Arch that pivots out from the 2/3 height of the window frame or so, such that it can be deployed and retracted as desired. I have also considered having the awning (and heard of others doing just this) made from a Solar Panel itself, as you’ve said. But I think I’d want some more freedom for both the panel and the awning to adjust to their unique needs/jobs.
