Freeway Blogging

try_it_tnjpg.jpgSo if your small LED projector isn’t getting your message across, here’s a great way to get a lot of people to see your message: Freeway Blogging. Freeway Blogging involves making signs out of cardboard, normally with black and white paint, and posting them in a very conspicuous location near a freeway.  You can also push a bunch of styrofoam cups into a chain-link fence to write words out. Pedestrian overpasses work great. Often times the signs don’t last too long but they don’t really need to, think of how many people are on the freeway during rush hour!

Caltrans passed a ruling making these signs illegal. Including the american flags with prowar messages attached.

We used to hang these against the war, but caltrans had the police tear our signs down saying they were causing a slow down in traffic.

We sued, asking why they permitted flags to remain. Caltrans ruled that nothing was allowed to hang on their fances.

    BUT….

During an environmental campaign, the prodevelopment gang got police permission to hold this sign at rush hour on the over pass.

    The trick was:
Make a frame that was resting on the ground (not attached to the fence) so that it wasn’t in violation of Caltrans rules. They had two guys to hold the sign verticle during rush hour.

Since the traffic was already slow the police said the pro development sign wasn’t affecting traffic. Neat trick.
