Fumage: Paint with Smoke

Salvador Dali and Wolfgang Paalen have done some amazing work with this method of “painting”. Using a canvas, a candle, a tablecloth for protection, and fire - you can be a surrealist, dadaist painter extraordinaire! Painting with flame and smoke is a beautiful technique, especially after you get it right, and then you can go crazy with it. Just try not to say things like “I’m a toaster who bakes razor penguins in my cottage!” You’ll sound like you’re 14, instead of sounding like a prolific, visionary artist. Dadaism, yes. Wacky randomness… well… you get the picture.
