Fun with Tyvek
I have this fascination with Tyvek – you know it, even if you think you don’t. It’s used to make concert wristbands, Priority Mail and Express Mail envelopes, hazardous materials suits and house siding, and is basically an odd, paper/fabric that can’t be ripped but can easily be cut. You can buy sheets, but I love stealing envelopes from the post office to use for random creative ventures.
Here are a few projects I've discovered to use with this weird supersubstance:
***This might be the most obvious, but I found it really exciting when I found out. Tyvek’s chemical structure makes it shrink, warp and bubble when it’s exposed to heat, which makes it cool to use in different fabric designs and collages. Joggles has a tutorial on how to use it in art. WARNING: I've found a few warnings that when heated, Tyvek relseases toxic gases. So if you’re going to heat things up, don’t be an idiot. Do it outside; wear protective clothing, etc. etc. etc.
***Most of the uses I've found were as a fabric replacement. Some of those are:
- Instructables has a pretty nice tutorial on how to make a Tyvek wallet. Sounds like a good idea; Tyvek is pretty indestructible and really light, so you back-pocket wallet carriers would especially benefit from this.
- Two Craftster tutorials show how to make a pouch and how to make an art-pencil organizer.
- Another neat use would be to make a stuffed animal for a kid using any standard stuffed-animal pattern. Give the kid some markers to decorate it themselves.
- I also read a few posts where people recommended using Tyvek to make lampshades, since it takes light well, but I can't imagine that this would be a good idea, given the fact that it, um, can't handle heat well and gets all warped and bubbly. But go ahead and try it; DIY:happy is not responsible for any fires or birth defects caused by irresponsible Tyvek use.
***It apparently turns out pretty cool when you use a printer to print images or words on Tyvek.

Sad, sad little man. He ought to get outside a little bit. Might want to change that Cheeto stained t-shirt first. A shower would be nice as well.

I have asked you assholes
I have asked you assholes repeatedly over the past year to remove these idiotic posts that this shithead posts using my name. Now this mother-fucker has posted personal contact information and you bastards won't do a fucking thing about it.
Would you like it if some asshole managed to find out your personal information and posted it on public forums??? I would think not.
I don't know what the fuck is wrong with you people but I am about fed up with this dick fucking with me.
I am once again asking for your voluntary cooperation in removing all posts that use the name Randy L Foreback and Randy Foreback. These posts add nothing to the thread and are nothing more than an interpersonal dispute perpetrated by some dumbass that has an ax to grind.
I do not usually use this sort of language, but I figured that it might get your attention and would not simply be posted as yet another reply. If you post it, then maybe others will take offense and bring this to your attention.

I lied in my previous message. The guy that used the fedex boxes for furniture was never prosecuted and committed no crime. I’m so ashamed. Please forgive me and my paranoid delusional rants.
Well, I guess I should
Well, I guess I should google myself more often. You can now easily see why this loon that is impersonating me was kicked off Ebay. These are the types of psots that I have endured for well over a year now. Guess maybe I should be a little flattered to have my own fan club, but I'm not really all that thrilled by the president of the club.
Now, if there were just a way to get the people on this website to take some action, that would be really peachy.
Please forgive my last
Please forgive my last posting. I was trying to break up my prozac to fit in a pez dispenser. As a result, my medication crumbled into dust and I failed to take it. My meds were totaly out of wack and I became paranoid and delusional.

As you see, there is quite a gap between these two comments attributed to me. Sad to say, there is this jackass from the Ebay Discussion boards that has been stalking me there for almost a year. Now he is ticked that he has been banned from the boards for his inappropriate comments and harassment.
The second post of August 9th is yet another feeble attempt to harass and discredit me for whatever kind of jollies it gives this person.
I absolutely made the first post, as well as this one, but I had nothing to do with the second post. This person has no idea that he is treading on very thin ice in using my work email address for these bogus posts and replies. You see, I am a Federal Employee and the Fed takes a very dim view of people causing any sort of problem with its computer networks.
Thank You

FYI, Express Mail & Priority
FYI, Express Mail & Priority Mail materials that are provided for shipping with USPS remain the property of the USPS and must only be used for Sending Priority Mail and/or Express Mail through USPS. Misuse of those materials may be a violation of Federal Law, USC 18 1707.
Remember the college kid that got on national TV by furnishing his apartment with furniture made from the boxes that FedEx provides for free to be used for mailinf with FedEx? Remember that FedEx was none too happy to see all of those boxes being used for an unintended purpose. I do believe that the kid was prosecuted for Petty Theft, but I could be mistaken on that count.
Just a really bad idea to steal materials to convert to a personal use.
I wouldn't recomend
I wouldn't recomend "stealing" priority tyvek mailers from USPS they are free to use with paid mailings. Those of us that use these as intended wouldn't like it if we had to pay for them. Please stick to already used ones or other Tyvek sourses.
I actually have experimented
I actually have experimented with Tyvek. I've been much more successful with boxes and labels, though.
