Talking toys are great for hacking (who doesn't want a possessed sounding Furby?) and usually easy to modify. Here is an explanation on hacking a Bob The Builder doll using a APR9600 chip which can be reprogrammed on the fly. Best of all, a switch allows you to revert him back to his normal, boring, British self just in case you don't want your kids hearing Bob The Builder making fart noises and saying "Whaassssuppppp?!"

Hi, I am a student doing a course in Industrial Electronics in Malta, Europe. I am trying to get the APR9600 directly from APlus INC, but it doesn't seem to be easy and quite expensive, especially the shipping. I need this IC to use it in a project to help a disabled person, who cannot communicate with speech and he can only move a few fingers only. I was hoping to help this person. Would you please help me identify from where I can buy this IC, maybe somowhere in Europe. I would really appreciate if you can help me out.
