Make Your Own Electric Drum Trigger

pad-dis.gifAfter you’ve made your own pickups for your guitar you’ve got a good start to a DIY band. But what is the drummer supposed to do? Most drummers will have practice pads and those can be turned into electric drums. With just a few parts you can add a trigger to your practice pad and make an electric drum.

Don’t have a practice pad or want to make it really portable?  Remo makes a putty that you can put on any surface but it feels like a practice pad.  It would be easy to mold a trigger into the putty.

Great… I see how you can make the drums, but is there a cheap drum module out there that can interpret the hits? $300 looks like the low end.

I second that. I came across this tutorial last year, but is there a cheap interface to make this worth doing as a diy project? It would be less expensive to just buy an analog drumset.

True. Sorry for not adding a little more info in the original post. The Alesis DM5 or DM4 are going to be the cheapest modules starting around $200. But here are some other solutions… If you want an actual trigger module for cheap, check your local pawn shops or maybe ebay. (Don’t forget what a big resource that pawn shops can be) If you want to build your own, here is a module that you can build. http://www.edrum.info/index.html Now this setup is still in need of drum sounds so this software might do the trick. http://edrum.for.free.fr/edp/ I haven’t tried either of these but I hope that this will at least make it a little more feasible for you to make your drum kit.
