THE DIY:HAPPY LOGO CONTEST!

Alright folks, the moment all you graphic designers, dabblers, photoshophiles, and avatar-makers have been waiting for!

DIY:happy does not have a logo. Some folks think we do (the little TV-looking thing), but we don't. However, we'd like one! We'd even be willing to throw in some incentives, because we're nice and fabulous like that.

Here are the regulations (not rules, for all the Libertarians):

1. The logo has to be a good size. Nothing too small... it has to be made in all kinds of sizes, and we wouldn't want to distort your masterpiece by resizing it, right?

2. It has to be a-okay for us to print it!

3. We'd rather not having anything offensive, mean, rude, terrible, or violence-insighting.

4. Those things said, anything goes.

DIY:happy loves you. So, whomever wins the contest will win:

  • A $20 GIFT CERTIFICATE, care of the wonderful LadyAda. Good for anything in her online store (linked here), which is a cornucopia of DIY electronics kits, components, and all kinds of fun stuff for hobbyists, electronic engineers, and weekend DIY fans!
  • Buttons with the logo YOU designed on them! Good for a resume, especially for designers!
  • Every button you sell will have your signature at the bottom, so you don't have to convince anyone. Just point at your sig.
  • You'll get three free buttons, as a sample of your work!

The suspense is over, let the games begin!

SUBMIT TO: Kristi@diyhappy.com or TIPS@diyhappy.com!

Projected End Date: September 13th at 11:59 PM (CST).

 UPDATE: 14 SUBMISSIONS AS OF 10:00PM, 08-11-07.

Welp, the only limit is how much we're willing to look at. Now considering we have the patience of a saint, we can bear to look at a lot of logos. The more the merrier. Or something.

Hey, I can't really bash the "incentives", since the cause is what's important (and I just like DIY:happy). One question though: is there any limit to the number of submissions? I have a couple ideas, but since we don't know exactly what you're after, I'm not sure which I'd rather send.

As Stephen said, this

As Stephen said, this contest is more about getting your name out there as a designer than the prizes. DIY:happy is run by one guy and I'm a lady who does remote editing. Now, considering I make $20 in google ads over the course of a week, unless it takes a week's worth of logo slaving and you have a hungry baby-mouth to feed, sorry. We're just offering a $20 gift card and buttons. Also, we tried to get a number of sponsors for this contest, but LadyAda was the only one cool enough to take us up.

Anywaaaay, this contest is just for a tidbit of internet fame amongst mutual-minded diy:geeks. If you can get anyone to sponsor us, we'd be more than happy to offer those prizes too. Thanks!

I'm practically a

I'm practically a professional at design and stuff (took some art classes in kindergarten) and I would've submitted a design but you fools didn't give me great enough incentive. Instead of merely not participating I thought I would let you know that I am too good for such a trivial thing. I will allow you to calculate the correct amount of despair* you should be experiencing, having missed out on what would have surely been a genius design, while I sip Code Red from a champagne glass.

*Hint: it's a lot!

And since we're giving

And since we're giving advice, a closing date for the contest might be nice ;)

I like this site but I gotta

I like this site but I gotta agree with Bill. I would rather if it were $20 cash or a $20 gift card to Target or any common store. I quickly browsed lady ada's there isnt much you can buy with $20 and its a pretty specific niche of products.

I would have played with the logo just for fun but you have to at least make it worth people's time.

One last comment on this website. I like it, I like the concept. But it needs more updating. You have to update it at least once per day. If you dont do it once a day you will have people who check in for an update, dont see one and dont bother checking it tomorrow because they know you arent updating it daily. You should always keep a reserve of content and spit it out daily.

It's fot a good cause - a wonky little tech blog which is growing. Besides, using it as a reference in my portfolio is much more important to me than the prizes.

So much, in fact, that I intend to pass the prizes onto the next closest to the winner if I do win.

Weak!!! How about some

Weak!!! How about some prizes worth the trouble. Nothing against lady adas' store but come on, only $20 and half a handful of buttons. ... pass
